Do-it-yourself -- Little Minion

I always keep this boxes or the containers which can be re-used, but after sometime I throw them without utilising it. Sometimes my hubby laughs by stating: " how big or small the place you may live in.... You will always want a big, spacious junk area.."..& I totally agree with me. I have variety of re-useable  stuff with me...
After the Minion movie, it's a crazy hit among the kids & with us adults too. So, last week when I got this Pringles Chips box, I already had in mind, how to use it back. My little boy adored it, and saw his Dad proudly, how Mumma made this little minion for him :)

Things required:
Pringles box or empty toilet roll or round hollow shape
Yellow paper
Blue paper
Black paper
White paper
Red sketch pen
Black pen
A pair of small eyes
Scissors
Fevicol/glue

Procedure:
Take a clean box, cut yellow paper which can cover the whole box , cut & apply glue and paste sealing the edges well.
Take blue paper, it's the dress of minion. Cover it 50% by making shape of I( but the standing line like 2-3inches broad. Cut & paste.
Take black paper, cut around 1/2 inch and paste in between blue dress & top.
Cut 2 small round from black for eyes and 2 more smaller in white. Cut & paste. Make eyes on white or paste readymade eyes.
Make smile from red sketch pen.
For hairs: take black paper, around 1" by 2" .  Cut small strips till 1and half inch and paste.
So, the little minion is ready to flaunt. Now store anything in it.... Brushes, pencils, pen or give it to your baby to store his little stuff. :)
Hope you all like it.

Sunshine will always be there after shadow!

Sunshine will always be there after shadow.

March.... I am all excited for this month...reasons..last year this very month i wrote my first post. Yes! It's been year..I never thought i would continue ..i didn't knew where to start with..what to write & what to do..but still i wanted to do something....i thought it as passing phase..which would over soon, but now it seems like never ending relation(though i can't promise about that). I am more than happy as it is growing..the love i am getting in form of comments & likes makes me double happy.
I have not planned anything yet ...about how am i going to celebrate it... (Ideas, suggestion are most welcomed).. but surely i am going to make it special.

As you all know i am going crazy these days in d-i-y's....you can see here & here Yes, designing for myself or you can say custom made... any word but single meaning...i love fabrics. I love to play with them(in sense of design).
They makes me go weak on my knees... but i love all this...it makes me feel proud when somebody compliment & ask from where i got? I proudly says i have custom-made it & there instant reaction is, you should open up a boutique or a design house..& I am flattered!
Enjoy the pictures & do tell me know about the skirt. I was attracted to this fabric for its camouflage feel but the best part it stands out because of its color. Slight hi-low design on side.

Skirt- custom made
Top- Mango
Cape-custom made
Shoe- Charles & Keith

Neon & Me!

Custom-made..... everybody loves this word.. isn't it??

Oh yes, even i love it...especially when i design, you can check here (love for custom-made)... & when it turns out be awesome(read here compliments flowing). I love prints, texture, color ...mixing them is what i enjoy. Sometimes my tailor just pat on his head when he see's me.... ;) .... with small fabrics, extra blouse pieces, embroidered borders, little tidbits, laces, sarees(never-ever worn or hardly worn), embroidered stuff back from my designing days. Thank to mom(she such a sweetheart) who actually have kept all the garbage(read here fabrics ;)) & when i need she just pack n courier it.....because i know..if i get all the stuff at once...all will be lying like that only(blame laziness here)...i might loose interest in all that stuff.

Anyways..The neon anarkali fabric was a saree which i just wore once for an hour. The blue intricate jaali work was done by karigar almost decade ago....i thought i will make blouse out of it... but it was all lying like that. Duppatta has crochet work done all the four side which was purchased from Kolkata .
Now,let me stop all the blah blah here.... enjoy the pictures..
Stay tuned for more customized stuff :)

Blue intricate design(jaali work) done by hand

Blue paisely brocade fabric + material for lining & churidar-only purchased

Shoe- Inc.5

Pictures are from my phone camera as we were running late as usual....{but with toddler around, this excuse works always ;)}
Do let me know what you think about it :)

CAPE Inspired by Nikhil Thampi!

This D-I-Y project is inspired by Designer Nikhil Thampi..  When i saw it for the first time...it was like OH I WANT IT ...but yeah spending so much.. so..it was like let it be.. !

I had this net white self design fabric in my 'box'(read here, extra fabrics.. or fabrics i buy n then they are not used).. which was 2 n half meter.. i took that n gave it for dye..
P:S  Red was the last option- I wanted it to be :-
     1- Royal Blue
     2- Fuchsia Pink
     3- Military Green
     4-Yellow/Ochre
After all the confusion i settled for RED(my love for red will never end... U can see HERE n HERE). I got a cotton lining of same colour & gave to a local tailor to stitch it(not even a boutique).. After little hesitation if he could do or not i showed him the pic of what i was expecting with little changes here n there.... He took measurements n made sure that my fabric was in GOOD HANDS.
Fingers crossed for almost a week.

VOILA totally in love...It flattered my body.. The best critic (My Hubby), appreciated it... :)
So, i am actually on cloud 9.
Now.... It didn't costed me a bomb & i am overall happy with the finishing part also.  :)
Tell me what u think... Did i made right choice with the fabric.. Did my tailor did justice (i told u i was inspired & i am not copying his design ;)
Have a look at the pictures.. Is this cape totally worth??... Will you go n get it stitch for yourself??
I am just making sure that i have NO INTENTION TO HURT ANYBODY SENTIMENTS(especially the designer).

Now, the cape is little longer than the original one. Styling here with simple blue denims & turtle neck. I want all the focus on cape so opted for a snakeskin printed wedges n kept jewellery to minimal.

Denims- Benetton
Turtle neck top- Biglife
Cape- Got it made from Local tailor
Wedges- Charles n Keith
Watch- Guess
Earings- Thailand

This is one of the easiest n beautiful D-I-Y i have done in these days.
1- Educational purpose for my 22+ month old toddler
2- Little decoration for his toy room
3- This can be altered in many ways- a- u can make 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY' banner
b- u can add 'PHOTOGRAPHS', instead of alphabets
c- u can gift it to a toddler.

Things required- A black chart paper(good quality)
2 chart papers in different shades(i used neon)
                           zigzag sciccors
                           ribbon
                           glue
                           punching machine
                           4 small pins
1- Cut the required size with zigzag scissors
 2- Punch them
3- Insert the ribbon(u can decide how much gap u want)
4- Write alphabets neatly.& according the size of black chart paper
 5- Cut them
 6- Paste them with glue
(U can draw little smileys or cute little drawings if u wish )
7-Now arrange neatly and pin it on the sides of wall.
Check the pictures out :-

D-I-Y Ballerina

You know when a shoe is lying in shoe rack for more than 4 years and you wore it for just twice or may be tried  for third time...n you put it back....what that means.. either the shoe was purchased just out of love.. or you were in too hurry... I don't remember what was the case with these suede ballerina... which i purchased from Emami market, Kolkata.. But one thing i knew... i was not in a mood of giving it away...
So, finally they got a new life..
Inspired by studs and spikes ....i created this for myself with these metal sequins(i stocked them almost 10 years back during my internship)..
Neon orange nailpaint from elle18
Quick fix

                                                                     Materials used

                                                                  I started from back...

Then did a little touch up in front... slowly covered the piping area with nail paint.

The finished product ..... I am happy with it :)

So, what do u do when something like this just lying in your closet for sooo long..?
